TFNN Dell Outlet Thread

I'm bored, so I thought I'd share some knowledge with those who have never heard of Dell Outlet, and need, or may need, an inexpensive desktop, workstation, laptop, or server.
Link...
http://www.delloutlet.com
these sysems are classified as refurbished systems, but many are brand spanking new systems.
Why would that be, you ask? Because Dell sells 10 million computer systems every year, and has a massive logistics program to control inventory. Dell operates on, no more than, TWO HOURS of inventory. So, let's say Dell sells 24,000 computers every day, that would mean that Dell only has 2000 computers on hand. Dell's suppliers have warehouses all around Dell's complex in Austin, TX, and bring in inventory all day.
That means that, at times, Dell has to dump loads of inventory at rock bottom prices to get it the fuck out of dodge.
But they don't want everyday, normal customers to see this, they don't want to de-value systems sold normally, so they dump these systems in their refurb inventory. these systems are delivered just like a new system, same box, packaging, keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, power cable, manual, cd's, etc.
Normally, Dell drops new inventory once every hour, every hour of the day. their normal drop time is roughly :40 minutes after the hour.
When new inventory is dropped, the best deals occur. And the best deals go quick, very quick. A lot of people use self-made scripts to gobble up the best deals. But don't let that bother you, those people are looking for the cheapest of the cheap, and a lot of good configurations at great prices can still be found.
** If you find a system that looks good at first site, add it to your cart as FAST AS FUCKING possible. **
You do not want someone else to get your hot deal.
I have purchased and resold well over 400 systems from dell outlet in the past 12 months. I use a Dimension 9100 as my personal work/gaming/neffing system, and am very happy with it.
Gamers...
(all these systems have 4 DIMM slots, systems with AGP use DDR, PCIe use DDR2 memory)
Dimension 4600 (AGP)
Dimension 4700 (PCIe)
Dimension 5100 (PCIe)
Dimension 5150/E510 (PCIe)
Dimension 8300 (AGP)
Dimension 8400 (PCIe
Dimension 9100 (PCIe)
Dimension 9150 (PCIe)
Dimension XPS (AGP)
Dimension XPS Gen3/Gen4/Gen5 (PCIe)
XPS 200 (SFF PCIe)
XPS 400 (PCIe)
XPS 600 (PCIe x2 SLI capable)
Dell also has great deals here for Inspiron Notebooks, Precision Workstations, and PowerEdge Servers.
Link to Product Specifications for every model...
http://support.dell.com/support/systemsinfo/documentation.aspx?c=us&cs=&l=en&s=gen&~cat=12&~subcat=84
Warranties (Standard - can be upgraded)
Low-end and mid-range desktops and notebooks come with 90-day warranties. High-end desktops (8xxx, 9xxx, and XPS) come with one year. Workstations and higher-end PowerEdge Servers come with standard three year warranties.
Upgrades
I upgraded my 9100 quite a bit. Dell systems work with Corsair Value Select DDR and DDR2 memory (depending on the model of course), the best cheap memory on Earth. I buy my DDR and DDR2 memory at ZZF, cheap and free shipping. (For those that don't know, ZZF is ZipZoomFly.com)
the PSU's in the systems with PCIe slots are quite powerful, even a Dell 4700 can handle a 256MB 7800 GTX. these systems also have the 6pin power cable for PCIe cards than need them.
More info will be added whenever I get bored again.

if you don't mind me asking, how much profit have you made selling the 400+ systems?

Toker: out of curiosity and pertaining to your customers, do you have to deal with the non-working systems or does that go direct to Dell

Been around for years. My mate buys nothing but outlet 1U servers for his business and has done for three years. He's in Ireland, where they are made(for the EU, at least.)

So you can really turn enough profit to make a living?
I'm going to have to look into this, and educate myself on Dell systems. My wife is a stay at home mom and likes selling on ebay, so I wouldn't have to watch the auction or worry about shipping the systems out.
Toker, is there a limit on how many systems you can buy from that site? If I found a good deal I'd want to buy eight or ten of them because I don't have time to watch the site.

If toker helps you, he's helping your wife become his competitor. Don't be offended if he doesn't offer to help.

Not like it's secret information, it was just easier to ask here than go read the site. To be honest, I haven't done anything about this yet, I should be tracking what sells the best on ebay and figuring what price point I need to buy those systems at to make it work, I've been lazy.
As far as my wife being his competitor goes, there is no lack of fools on ebay just dieing to pay to much for products.
The real issue is purchasing from Dell, I can't haunt the dell site all day, and it will take a while to get my wife up to speed on what to buy and what price point works.

Toker's targeting gamers, not average computer users. Unless your wife wants to do some upgrades on every computer, she's not going to be competing with Toker at all.

The reality is that all shes going to be doing is listing and shipping them, I'll be buying and upgrading, if I ever get around to doing this. I have my own business to run before setting one up for her.

Thanks for the insight, I run a computer repair/sales/upgrade business and I've just ran out of donated systems to sell. I use D&H for most of my large drops but this looks like a decent way to grow my margins!
Thanks!

Does anyone know what time of the hour or what time of the day is best for seeing new items? I dont think they do it at 40 minutes past the hour, every hour anymore.

I think this is probably the case as well. I wonder if Dell has changed their methods for showing new inventory in the outlet site?

Heads up: Dell in the UK have just dropped around 250 Mini 10v's in the outlet store for around 60% of the regular price. Maybe you'll get something similar if they are clearing out?

They are coming up at £178 including shipping for the 1Gb/120Gb model. Tempted to buy two, eBay one and replace my Aspire One, which would also go on eBay.

Looks like Dell is changing their outlet strategy. You have to call them up to get access to additional inventory on certain machines(i.e. precision m6400 and m6500)
